Default rear deck subwoofers

I plan on swapping out my rear deck subs (one currently doesn't work) with another set of after market subs. I have an after market double din pioneer for the head unit.

When I replace the Subs in the rear deck will I need an amp and will I need to do any special wiring?

If you have 8 speakers (two front doors, two tweeters, two rear doors, two deck) you have the Bose. Therefor you already have an amp, and you should be fine then. I've honestly never felt with a non-Bose system before, so I couldn't honestly help if you don't!

No, it came with the symphony unit. I only have the single front door speakers, front door tweeters, and the the two rear deck subs.

I understand it came with the Symphony. From my understanding, all B5 models had an option of sound system (Bose or non-Bose). For example, mine came with a Delta head unit with the Bose sound system. I now have a Concert installed with the Bose Sound system. You have a Symphony, but whether or not you have the Bose, I'm not sure. Open your boot, look on the roof on the inside of the boot, do you see an amplifier? If so, congratulations. You have Bose. If not, I have no idea if you'll need to do extra wiring. I've never heard of having the tweeters but not the rear doors. I guess it's a facelift thing

The Symphony system will say "Bose" on the display as soon as you turn the stereo on (if you have Bose).

I have the Bose Symphony system and that's how mine works anyway.

Oh, I assumed there was an extra PIN running to the amp telling the HU it has BOSE.

even if you do have a factory amp, its not enough to drive a real sub. You can easily install a mono, 2, or even 4 channel Alpine. Crutchfield has them for around $150.

I got a 4 channel, then bridged 2 to go into a sub, and used the other 2 channels split into 4 front speakers. Sounds so much better than factory. I dont know why OEMs even bother with stereos, they should leave blank holes and let us handle it.
