Default Rear door issues

Hello,

Im new to the audi's and this forum, finally. love the car and all it has to offer. down to business now.

Its a 97 2.8 quattro a4. problem is and cannot figure it out at all, and have looked through this and other forums with no pointers, both rear doors will open from the outside handle, lock plunger ontop of door panel goes up and down just like the front, child safety lock i tried switching it on then back off and still will not open from the inside on both rear handles.

Car used to be my brothers and he had taken the panels apart to change out the factory bose speakers for new bose speakers from dealer. I do not know however if it was not opening from the inside before for him tho. is there a wire or plug or something he might of put on backwards? or maybe a quick diy fix?

Thanks for all that can help out,

New to the this vehicle (coming from a long time honda fan and still til this day, lol but its the wifes car now ..

take the panels off and look for a long dangeling piece of metal. or anything that looks loose, taking it off is really easy check youtube for the DIY, puting it on is a bitch tho.

The cable #28 or the clips that hold it on are probably at fault. Here is a picture to show you how it should look when you get in there.

Nice, yes that helped alot. Door panels are an easy on easy off deal, wish my civic was like this so i dont need to buy clips and pins all the time.

Thanks for all of your help tho, ended up being where the cable clips on to #31 on the diagram you put up, it was not in the clip thus when i pulled on the handle the whole thing moved and not just the wire inside alone to pull on the latch.

Thanks again for all of your help. Now onto trying to figure out why the temp readings on the cluster are off from outside temp...if its not one thing its another, lol..
