So I've found a wrecked 1999 quattro with a 30v 2.8 for 1300 bucks. The damage is to the drivers side rear fender and most likely suspension, just wondering if i would be worth it to buy and have as a parts car/engine swap car since from what i've read if i want to upgrade the engine the 30v has more aftermarket support. it has the same five speed quattro trans as well if 12v and 30v don't mate up to the trans the same less milage than my new to me 96

theres no aftermarket support worth merit for either v6. It would be better to have a 30v than a 12v but its not worth swapping

Agreed with JBJ. Any remotely affordable mods will net the same gains in a 12v as in a 30v, except for the Speedtuning chip (which isn't available for a 12v).

As for the wheel bearings, with a basic tool set you can remove both hubs and take them to a shop. I've done that before and paid the guy $20 per hub to remove the bad bearing and press in the new one. Then I just reassemble it onto the car. If that's not an option and you have to have it all done by a shop, start with the right rear - that's the one making the noise on your car.

Thanks for the input and links guys got the car back a few hours ago drives nice and quiet now. Happy about that wish I had my tool set I would have done it my self but was kinda in a lurch with all my stuff 300k away, still need to do a clutch in a real quick hurry but other than that she feels mint
