To be quite honest with you i didn't see this post until i read thru it all, and i honestly didn't know the answer to your question. I never replaced a rear wheel bearing on a FWD A4 before. The older cars (customer pay) usually went to the high techs on the todem pole, i was a lot newer tech so i always got to play with warranty cars, brand new basically. I think in my 5 years at the dealer i only repaired a handfull of B5's, and about 4,000 B6's, and an endless supply of A8's, A6's TT's A3's and B7's.
Im just saying not everyone is going to know this crap, thats why there is a book for it, so buy one!

well i dont/didnt have the money for the book... anyways i replaced the inner bearing today at class... and holy **** was it a pain in the ***... long story short, the new bearing inside diameter was about .002" smaller than the spindle... so we had to jimmy rig the bearing onto a rod honing machine and hone out the .002" and after about 3 hours of running around and switching out parts from 3 different stores thats when we honed it out... so for anyone else doing this with a 2 piece wheel bearing set then buy from audi... nobody else seemed to have the right one... i brought a dial caliper and all of them were off by .002" except the original one.... so just some advice fo all u FWD guys

and Rawdney... look underneath the car... if u dont have a driveshaft coming out of your transmission then ur FWD
