I have read and heard everywhere to just buy a new one but i dont understand why you cant just compress the old one and reuse it. Ive heard the idlers bearings sieze so im def buyin that but i dont understand the tensioner

the tensioner has moving parts whos lifespan is not indefinate. its much easier and cheaper to replace it now, then have to take your car apart later a second time. and if it fails and you jump timing... well we dont like to talk about that.

Isn't it mainly the tensioner that's a problem anyways. I thought belts went from weak tensioners or bad pulleys or water pumps.

The belt is not what fails, it's the tensioner that fails and causes the belt to jump and then break. I'm sure it's possible for the belt to fail, but it's not what everyone is afraid of. And I have not see a kit that doesn't include the tensioner, besides the belt, it's the most basic part of the kit.

2.8 there is your problem - it is strange that they do not include it - even ECS lists it at the top saying it should be replaced and then doesn't include it in their kit

Next time say your year and engine in your posts - otherwise we will always assume 1.8t

More expensive tensioners? or just more reliable and dont have to replace?
