S4 suspension question
OK, so I know what to expect with a stock S4 suspension under my car. Being a v6 I may get an inch or less of drop but I'm more so looking for a firmer more sportier ride. I have the opportunity to pick up S4 springs and struts with 125k miles on them and am wondering if the mileage is a concern? I've already got an S4 rear sway bar fitted. Let me know what you guys think.
How cheap is dirt cheap? And what's the current state of your stock suspension? If you're in need of replacement parts to fix something that's broken, that isn't a bad option, but for a planned upgrade I would spend the extra time/money to source new(er) parts
I know I can get the S4 front and rear springs and shocks/struts for under $100. My existing non sport suspension has been on the car since I got it and it has 227, 000 miles on it now. Not sure if the po ever changed it bht the rear springs don't quite look original.
That's about what I paid for mine. If you've got over 200k on the original suspension, you'll see a huge change.
If you plan to do the work yourself, I'd say go for it. As I said before, I really liked the improvement it made on my car, but I decided to be lower and replaced the springs with Tein S-Tech. I still have the S4 springs in storage.

For that much, and with that many miles on your OEM suspension, just give it a shot. Couldn't be any worse than your OEM setup. Pick up some spring compressors from Autozone and start with the rears first, they're much easier. Also, I didn't need to take out my pinch bolt when I changed my front springs. Here's the writeup I used:

^agreed. Don't touch that F&#@ing bolt! Just undo the top nuts mentioned in that thread. You'll need to remove the sway bar link and then the lower bolt for the strut. It should just fall out at this point.
I have a strut compressor if I need one but the top bushing is in place. Literally just unbolt and rebolt. I just did upper ca's a few months back and lathered the pinch bolts in never seize. I actually didn't have much trouble driving them out with heat and a bfh. I'm thinking of just picking them up and giving them a run. If I dont like the ride or they blow up, I can just pop my old crap back on. We'll see...Thanks everyone for the input.
Look in (I think) the DIY section for my post "The 411 on S4 Suspension on an A4" (might be in General Tech, I don't remember). It's got my impressions from having it on my car, which also had a non-sport suspension. From experience, I can tell you it's worlds better.
