Default SAI Large Hoses

Got a new audi, sounds like a jet for the first 30 -60 sec of cold start ups. Got taking apart the intake area to see what was going on. The pump is obviously running, and the large hose that goes the in intake box is broken off and is causing it to sound like a jet. Also the hose coming off the pump is broken off causing it to send air to the atmosphere, causing my CEL.

My question is, were are you getting the large vacuum cleaner hoses at? Or are you guys just fixing them with tape?

Surely you're exaggerating...

The SAI hoses on my car are at most 3/4 inch, which last I checked is more than 1/3 the size of the average vacuum cleaner hose.

Try ecstuning.com or purems.com or your trusty local autoparts store such as Autozone for replacement hoses. You can save yourself a hose if you completely disregard the hose coming from the airbox to the pump and stick a small breather filter on the intake side of the pump, all you need from there is a new hose for the pump to engine side.

On another note, welcome to the forums and - if this is your first Audi - to the brand

Never thought about doing a breather filter, that might just work. My vacuum clean has a diameter of 1" and the shop vac is 1.25". Just wanted to make sure people knew what i was talking about though.

First German car of my own, but I knew what I was getting myself into from the gf's 1.8t jetta and friends audi's cars that I've had the privilages to work on :/

Yea, a lot of people go with the breather filter and cap the hole in the airbox that the hose was hooked to, especially if you were to put a new intake in which removes that airbox completely which has very mixed reviews, depending on who you talk to and how far you plan on modding the car.

My shop vac hose is 2.5" and regular vac is 1.25" so that's why I was confused as to what exactly you were talking about, cuz not even the radiator hoses are that big, but I gotcha now.

Good luck with the car, if you treat it right, it'll treat you right. What year/engine is it?

Got the hoses fix. I was able to press one back in, and the other i added a smaller hose on the inside to act as a sleeve. Taped around it with black tape and was good to go. Now no more CEL and the car doesn't sound like a jet!!

Also, 2000 1.8t quattro 5 speed manual.
