Default Shift Stick Thread Size

Does anybody know what thread size would be on the shifter in my 1999 A4 1.8T Quattro? My dad used an aftermarket shift **** on it before selling me the car, and the set screws damaged the threads. I was gonna try to take a die and fix them.

If the threads are already damaged, you might just smooth off the rest of them and use another shift **** w/ set screws?

If you're dead set on using an OEM **** and repairing the threads, you could go to a hardware store and buy a bunch of nuts that you think are close, then turn them on by hand to clean up the threads.

Also, I used to work in a machine shop and they had gauges that you could use to determine thread size and depth, i dunno if thats the sort of thing you can buy?

or buy an ebay short shifter, or a nice JHM shifter, and it will replace the whole rod and come pre-threaded for the stock ****.

Ebay short shifter FTW! I'd recommend it to anyone.
