Default Smelly Clutch

Hi, I am new to this forum but have enjoyed similar ones with BMW.

My wife has a 97 A4 we bought new and now has about 95K miles. She is a good driver of stick shift, doesn't ride her foot on the clutch, etc.

This week she started to notice a hot smell that does smell like the clutch. She also complained it doesn't shift well. This seems to happen when the car is warm. So far the clutch doesn't slip and it runs well when cold.

Our regular mechanic looked at it and said it seems OK but he will drive it more. He also said he has two other customers who had similar complaints but no real problems.

Anyone out there ever heard of this or had similar issues???

Thanks,

Kurt

doesn't shift well how? if she burned it, say going up a hill or sumthin, it could smell for a little bit and then pass. if the clutch starts slipping then you need to get a new one.
