Default smoke coming from engine

I just got my 2000 a4 2.8 about 4 days ago. there was some smoke coming from the engine, you could only see it if you stoped and opened the hood. the smoking has stoped but i do occasionaly smell something like burning in the car while im driving. i did notice that it seemed like the mechanic spilled alot of oil and put too much oil in the car. was the smoking just the oil burning off or is it a sign of bad things to come. any ideas out there?

Why not check the engine bay and see if they spilled oil or over filled it? If its on the engine, it will go away in a day or 2

there is definately too much oil in the car. and there was definately oil spilled on the engine. the smoking has stoped but i still smell a burning and was concerned that it might be just more than spilled oil.

Then jack up the car and take out some oil. If you run to much, you WILL kill the cat.
