Cool So I broke down....

... and did the open air filter thing (as seen here: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2507093 ) I ordered the filters a couple of days ago from "the zone" if you know what I mean It was only $65, I wish I would have gone this route to begin with... I replaced the a/f a few weeks ago with an oem one, but after seeing that diy I really wanted to try it!

I am very happy to say that you can definitely hear the ppssshhh sound (I am chipped though, with the 710N valve).... It's not like a wrx or evo, but very audible.

Just wanted to share the news... Thanks!!

I am not too sure about that.... If you don't have the secondary air injection pump (or whatever it is) than you wouldn't need the smaller filter.

True. Only if you have a secondary air pump and i think that is all facelift 1.8T but I am not positive. You will know if you have one because you will have two hoses coming out of the air box. the big one is the Turbo inlet pipe and the small 1" one is the on to the SAP. I need to get some pics of mine up.

So I went out and got a sheet of aluminum from a sheet metal place (a lot thicker than those rolls you can buy) and some new cut off wheels for the dremel.... heat shield will be in the works.

Heat shield is done! For now anyways, I still need to put some weatherstrip on it or something... and I am considering painting it. I need to use my car though so that will have to wait for another day...... I'll get some some pictures tomorrow!
