Default So, is my car a pre-facelift or post-facelift?

I had been thinking that my A4 was a post-facelift 99.5, but now I'm unsure! It has the one-piece headlights but the radio is the single-din concert unit, I thought that all post-facelift cars has the double-din unit. Could it be that one of the previous owners added the one-piece lights in front? I'm sure its possible, although the car has no other mods, it is totally stock, so it would seem a little odd that someone would change out the headlights and mod nothing else.

That combination is possible, some post facelifts have a single-din radio. Do you have the old climate control or the new?

Many of the cars manufactured right around when they did the switch have components from both. Check this out:

1999.5 is a HALF face lift. Single DIN is normal for the half

EVERY single 99.5 I have seen has the single DIN with facelift console

Including mine

somebody5788 is right. 99.5 is half facelift - it has a single din radio and red cluster.

If you want to know if you have a pre-facelift car that someone put the facelift tails/headlights on, check your hand brake - if it is wrapped in leather, you have a 99.5. If it is plastic, you have a 99. If you have a key hole in your passenger side door, you have a 99, if you don't, you have a 99.5.

I've owned a 1997 and a 1999.5, I've seen the differences, and the radio isn't one of them.

Yep, that looks just like my console with the single din stereo. I guess I can go and celebrate now that I know I have a 99.5 and not just a 99!

I like my flat doorhandles and keyholes. I think prefacelift is better looking - the skinny door bumpers/moldings make the car look longer. My '97 next to my '99.5 made the 99.5 look stubby because of those, lol.

I sold the '99.5 after a month of ownership. I couldn't let go of my 'Ol' Blue'

Even more reason to celebrate, no key hole in my passenger door! Woo hoo!

I feel like 99.5's are the bestest deal! Nobody looks for them because they are looking for a 00-01 facelift but you get most of the benefits for less money in a 99.5! Plus you can swap the radio if it really matters... I mean it sure isn't free but it's a direct swap. But 2 and some years ago I only paid $4600 for a 99.5 sport/winter manual with 128k!
