Default Speakers

I searched and came up with 3 different sizes for speakers in my car.
What are the proper size for the front and back doors? 2000 wagon.
I don't really feel like taking a door panel off to measure.

i have a 99 sedan quattro a4, I know for sure the fronts are 4", at least on mine, i dont see why yours would be different. As for the back, mine doesn't have them on the back doors but the very back so i cant help you their.

I fit 5.25 in the front, it was alittle tight id step down a size next time I did it. And 6.5 rears, which fit perfectly. I made custom mounts out of the old speakers, just hacked them up.

Your speaker set up will be a little bit different than a sedan. Instead of large rear deck speakers, you have 4" speakers in both doors and a smallish subwoofer. Do you have Bose? You wouldn't be able to fit larger than 4" speakers without some pretty extensive modification (metal trimming) because of the way the Bose speakers are mounted. I bought adapter rings a long time ago to fit regular 4" 2-way speakers in my front doors. The rear door speakers are due for replacement this year, I think I'm going to trim the door frames to fit 5.25" speakers back there. Not sure how big the sub is, I've never had that trim panel off.

Not sure if its sedan related or bose related, but i have rear bose door cards with 6.5s in them. i think the bose speakers are small but the trim rings are prefect, it can happen.

Good to know. I'll probably tear one of the doors down and do some measuring before I buy anything. I'm also looking to replace the sub but I have to tear that carpet off first and see what's going on back there.

They make 5.25" speaker adapters for our front doors, and I know they work because my car has 5.25" speakers Company is called Autoleads, and I found mine on Ebay for less than $20 shipped I believe.

OK thanks, It's not a Bose. Just the regular Symphony. I got the death rattle from one of the front and both of the back speakers. Does just the Bose have a sub? Mine sure doesn't sound like it has one. Hell I'm a helicopter mechanic, I have an awesome set of tools to tear some metal up.

That's a good question. I assumed all Avants had a sub to make up for the lack of larger rear deck speakers due to the lack of a rear deck. It's nothing spectacular, but if you have one it will be in the rear cargo area on the driver's side behind the carpet just to the rear of the back seat.
