Specific question about www.getcoolparts.com
I did a quick search on here for feedback on this company from AF members, and what I saw in general is very encouraging. My question is specific though - have any of you ordered axles from them? My CV joints started clacking awhile back, and I do have reboot kits that I could use on them, but I just don't have the confidence that they're going to solve the problem, and I don't want to take a chance on something as important as the CV joints. So I searched their site for drive axles, and they're less than $70 each for my 99 2.8qm. I'm wondering if any of you have used their axles before, and if so, any feedback about them, good or bad? I'm ordering in the next few days (and leaving the car parked in the meantime). Any input on axles from them? Any reason why I'd be better off paying $130 each from PureMS or ECS? Thanks in advance for anything you can offer on this.

turns out auditech suggested him to just do the boot kit and it worked out fine for him, and his other mechanic said he's seen a lot of cheap axles bent

**UPDATE** So I came to find out that the axle I bought was slightly bent... cheap axle = problems. So, I went dumpster diving for my original axle, bought a boot kit, cleaned/re-greased my outer CV joint, put on the original axle, and VOILA- like butta. For those trying to decide whether to buy a boot kit or a new axle, BUY A BOOT KIT AND REUSE YOUR ORIGINAL AXLEas Auditech has advised.Cheap axles will get you nowhere but pissed off fast... got a buddy who's been an ASC tech for over 10 years... he says he sees more of these cheap axlesbent and out of tolerance than any anything these days. Just thought I'd share.
No kidding - thanks for the input. There's going to be some wrenching this weekend for a few of us at my house, so I guess I'll shoot for that first.
I didn't even think about Cook Bros. I'll have to call them tomorrow and see what they can offer. I think that sometimes I get blinded a bit by the fact that, being an Audi, it's often tough to come across parts for it locally. Bearing was put off because of my court schedule in getting custody of my kids (as of last Friday, it's final - SUCCESS). It's now back on the docket, possibly for this weekend.
Did you get my PM about Saturday?

Yep, I got it. The reason I was asking about the bearing is mine just took a powder. Here's another place for parts. http://www.germanautoparts.com/Audi/A4/Drivetrain/8/6 I'm loving these guys, their service is top notch and they don't jab you on the shipping like some of the places that service this forum and others.
Very cool - thanks for the link. I'm taking it that with what you said, you haven't suffered from crappy parts so far, as chaos was insinuating with some of the other places around. I've decided that since I'm keeping the car parked until I fix the problem, I'm going to go ahead and tear into it and replace the boots, clean and repack the joints, and see if it fixes the problem. I might as well since I have the parts already. But I'm going to keep a finger over the keyboard, ready to click on the order page for the axles just in case. How quick was their shipping to you?
Oh, and as for your wheel bearing, I know I can borrow my buddy's press if you don't have one, and bring it by for you to do the bearing swap if you need it. Just let me know. Or, given the fact that our cars seem to eat wheel bearings like popcorn, I may just drop the $80 and buy one myself. But let me know if you need it and I am sure I can get it, even on very short notice. And by all means, pop by Saturday for a beer and to say Hi.

Since they're near Albany shipping takes no time at all. I buy Elf oil from there, and they charge the actual shipping fees. I was in a bind last week, I took my calipers apart to paint them and decided on short notice to rebuild them. I gave them the opportunity to screw me on the shipping because I told them I needed the parts the next day. They checked the shipping time for ground and since I would get the parts in time with that method, that's how they shipped. I just ordered my bearings from there. I'm sure they'll come before the end of the week.
Perfect. I put their phone number in my cell already. Hopefully the repack and reboot will do the trick so the money doesn't have to be spent, but with a good recommendation, the fact that they're close and can ship quickly, and their prices are good, I'm not hesitant to order. Much appreciated
