Default Sporadic Window

Hey the read passenger side window in my a4 has been acting up for awhile now. Once it has been rolled down passed a certain point it wont roll up by itself anymore. Instead it will roll up a bit then roll down all the way. So to close it i have to force it or use baby steps. So my question is what could to causing this to happen?

It's a safety feature in the window. It is getting resistance on the way up so it automatically rolls back down thinking that an arm or finger etc... is stuck in the window.

ok that sounds better than my initial assumptions to what the problem was. So to fix it will i have to remove the inside of the door panel to find whats blocking the window or is there an easier way?

This sounds like a bad window regulator to me. The driver's side rear window regulator in my old A4 **** the bed, and the symptoms were exactly as you described. ECSTuning sells a repair kit IIRC.

btw, OP I lol'd at your screen name

I'd say open it up and make sure it's not hitting anything. I don't know the exact amount of pressure it takes to cause it to happen but if something is hitting it on the way up it would stop it. Make sure all your wires are secured like they should be and also try to replicate the problem with the door panel off. If something is hitting it you should be able to see it with the door panel removed.

It could be a regulator like CCA4 suggested, but my only thing with that would be don't you think it would be more consistent? he said it's sporadic so that's what made me think it was hitting something. Like if a wire harness or something came loose it could be blocking the path, but when he opens / closed the door it moves out of the way OR if he hits a bump it jolts it enough move the harness.....

All just suggestions tho

The same thing was happening to me when I first got my Audi. The right rear window would go down but then go up randomly.. Or it would go down and not be able to go up. Then my front passenger side went, and shortly after my front drivers side went. I fixed the fronts for about 120? I got the regulators on Ebay and bought a cheap riveter at autozone. Make sure you get long enough rivets. There's a DIY somewhere around here that definately helped.
