Unhappy start up problem

Alright guys and gals, I have searched and tried many different things for my car, and nothing has worked yet... I have a 1999.5 A4 1.8t Quattro w/ tip and when I go to start the car it seems like it doesn't want to start right away and then starts. When I turn the key the engine wont turn over for about 3-5 seconds. I have changed the battery and checked the alternator and still don't know what's wrong with it... Any help would be appreciated!

Ok... I have checked battery terminal connections and cleaned them so I know it is not that... And if anyone has any other ideas on what it could be feel free to chime in!

Alright, so it won't start cranking for 3-5 seconds or the engine will not begin to run after 3-5 seconds? If it won't run after 3-5 seconds of cranking, when was the last time you checked tune up items like plugs and filter. Could be a fueling problem?

The car starts up everytime... it just takes 3-5 seconds of the engine (I guess) cranking to start... I have changed plugs and oil... I will try filters then... thanks everyone!
