Ok cool. So four hours to replace a subframe is normal for a team of professional body mechanics? How long should I expect just for the core support removal and installation? I'm just trying to figure out if these parts of the process are worth doing myself.

hmm now medal work is art i truely and sincerly believe that i would let a pro do the work i have no clue what the process is like but you could always try it your self and if it doesnt work there is always paying someone its not like your gonna make it any worse by trying it yourself anyways

Anything that doesn't require specialized tools or equipment I'm not afraid to do myself. I was an aircraft sheet metal specialist for four years, so metal working and structural repair are very familiar to me. My only concern is the PITA factor, especially seeing how it's winter and I have no garage. I've replaced the core support before and really don't want to do it again unless it will save me a lot of money. I wouldn't want to do any frame related metalwork, as I know how much handling is affected when something is off. That and I have no way of checking to see if everything is within specs when I'm all done.

yeah a subframe change is pretty complicated since the engine is mounted on it lol. you'd need a hoist to hold the engine and then start ripping the subframe out. $300 for an evaluation sounds a little expensive to me. $200 sounds a little more appealing

When I said $200, I meant that's the price they gave me including labor and the use of their machine, not each separately. Sorry for the misunderstanding. So I guess that is a good price then.
I was talking to another guy who has replaced these kinds of subframes before and he told me the only hard part was keeping the engine and transmission in place. He said it could be done with jacks and jack stands though. What do you guys think?

If you're talking about the guy who told me to use jack stands, I would, but he does VW/Audi repairs and maintenance for a living and says he doesn't normally do body work, so I'd get better labor rates elsewhere.
