Stock Intercooler Question.

Stock Intercooler Question.
Ok so i have an interesting question; How much can a stock oem inter-cooler on a b5 can handle as far as boost, burst pressure , temperature's and heat soak when does it start to feel the term heat soak?.
i read something on the subject but it was on a S4 model with a stage 3 turbo, some good info some just made up stuff so i just want to lay this question out and see what any of you know as far as this little small SMIC on our cars.
any input?

Even with a K04 you're looking at heat-soak territory. For example, with GIAC PC-16 tuning (made for a K04) they say you must use a FMIC to keep IATs down, probably because of the more aggressive timing they use with that tune.

only issue would be heat soak. it can handle 25 psi. id say it depends on a lot of factors. ambient air temp, how hard the car is driven, altitude (air density). under the BEST conditions i dont see why it couldnt handle a gtrs. this means low ambient air temp (less than 50f), only a hard pull every once in a while, and a good amount of quality air. with that said, a hard driven k03 would definately benefit from upgraded intercooler under rough conditions. i understand i am evading the question, just throwing the info out there.

Under light throttle you should be fine. More than that and the IC won't be able to keep up. IATs increase, and your detonation threshold becomes more of a danger. If I were you, I'd do the supporting mods (like the FMIC) first, get everything on the car, and save the PC16 tune for last so that once its loaded, you're ready to go.
