looking for a quick answer, how much will the stock internals hold up to? also, if anyone could post a pic of a stock rod i'd appreciate it

i dont havt a pic, but depending on the year of your car, the stock internals can take 350 to 400 ish crank hp. the 1999 and earlier (maby 2000, im hella drunk sooo...) had 20mm pins while the later ones had 19mm pins. but basically, unless you go huge turbo like gt30 turbo, you should be fine. gt2871r turbo is run by many on here but you are running to the limits

remember that torque snaps rods not horsepower

lol true. if you go with a large turbo that spools sooner you will produce more torque and risk throwing a rod. a turbo that spools later depending can risk blowing something else. like spinning a bearing or youre valves floating (which will not break your engine but isnt god for power).

but to toextreme, ya, torque throws rods but for the internals, the only way i have heard them rated at is horsepower not torque. i guess it is because there are not that many common large turbo options to chose from so looking at the advertised HP you can figure it out.

well a GT2871r is the "unofficial" limit for the stock rods. The stock valves can rev to 7800 without floating and the stock pistons or are good to 500hp or so. The weakspot is the rods and are the only thing that need to be replaced when going BAT

actually, all engines are created equal when dealing with limits for power capabilities..the wrist pins will be of no relation to a blown stock motor. the rods themselves are the first things to go. the size of the wrist pins will only come into factor once you've upgraded rods and are deciding which pistons to go with.. all in all. a cheap IE or SCAT rod + stock pistion setup will handle pretty much any power you'll ever make out of the 1.8t.

and for the record. with a good tune. the 1.8t will handle 400bhp all day long

well that depends on what turbo you have boiling down to where it produces its power. If its lower, the torque is what will kill a rod, if it is higher, you should be safe
