On my 01 A4 1.8t whenever I am accelerating (in any gear), when it gets to 2700RPM it makes a quick scraping like noise.. only lasts for about half of a second and the car doesn't stutter, but it is noticeable when the music is off. Anyone know what it is?

i can almost guarentee with 100% certaintee without actually hearing it that its a loose heat shield.

 

put ur car in a park position and accelerate again and hold it around 2700rpm to see if its doing the same noise...and listen very carefully which side the noise is coming from..

 

Does not do it while in neutral. Only while in gear. Sounds like its coming from the engine too..

 

Sounds like it's coming from the left side of the engine.. again it doesn't do it while in gear. If it is a loose heat shield.. how would I go about tightening that.
