Default suspect turbo trouble

so my turbo is making a ridiculous whirring sound upon start up, and I am assuming it is on its way out. Going to replace it.

is there anything I should consider as I do this as part of "while I am in there"? hoses? gaskets? is there a kit? brand of turbo?

thanks for any suggestions.

Are you sure it's not your secondary injection pump? They can sound like a freaking fighter jet on cold starts. Any smoke or a 'dentist drill' noise under load?

it does sound like a jet plane on start up. no smoke or dentist drill sounds. car seems to run well.

check shaft play before you bother to replace it. could be something else. keep in mind the turbo is hardly spinning at start up compared to full spool. if its going to make noise when its going out, it will at spool not start up

Just on cold starts for a couple of seconds? If so it's probably your SAI pump going out, listen for where the sound's coming from next time you hear it.
