Default suspension/steering issue

I hear noise from the struts up front, I suspect the strut mounts, but when I am turning the wheel like when I am backing out or manuvering through a parking spot I hear a groaning, almost grinding or creaking sound. this happens whether I am still or moving. it sounds like a tire would sound if it were rubbing a plastic panel but I know that is not it. could this be from bad stru bearings and mounts? thanks to all for the help. I think i have learned this entire car under the hood from all I have done since I got it.

I have literally the exact problem. It is coming from the front driver side wheel/suspension. Any idea what it could be? Started out as just a groaning when going over bumps/humps. Now it even does it whenever I turn the wheel. Also, if I sit on my hood by the front driver side tire and bounce up and down it makes the same groan/squeak.

I have a 1998 A4, 136,000 mi

Any help?

Strut mounts or have you possibly hit a curb or somethin recently to tear your boot, look down there and see if u see some sludge behind the rotors

I noticed after the car warms up the sound it makes when turning the steering wheel quits. I definitely think it is the strut bearings/mounts.

dantheman, the ability to push up and down on your driver fender to hear a loud creaking/groaning 95% of the time is either your upper/lower control arm. Audi's have a tendency to need these replaced more frequently than other cars (unfortunately). My driver upper CA has been replaced twice from the previous owner, and about a month ago, my creaking was SO insane, I couldn't stand it. I weigh about 160lbs and even me getting in and out of the car, it would squeak! Made me feel fat! (lmao j/k) But anyhow, took it to the stealership and after an hr 1/2 he came back and said it was my lower CA. Replacement part & audi installation cost me $375 My point being, go and have yours checked before ripping apart the suspension.)
