Just bought a 1997 a4 1.8t quattro for $1200. It had a blown turbo (car is completly stock) but luckily for me I just did a gtrs swap on my b6 and have a k03s sitting in my garage. The car has about 175k on the clock this is the only thing scaring me a bit.

After going through everything on the car there wasnt any signs of any other imminent problems(but i do know how audis like to break with no warning signs) Anything to look out for Im planning on doing a timing belt and waterpump for good measure and coils and plugs. Anything else while ive got it apart?

Also how many of you have run the early 1.8ts to over 200k??

it does sound like a good deal. specially since u already had the turbo!!

i cant think of anything else u might wanna check.
i'd do a full tune up while ur at it... (spark plugs, wires, oil change and wat not)

 

compression test it first. then spend some money and change out the vacuum hoses and put in a boost gauge. o and the ICM should be tested but that thing usually goes out with no warning anyways. good find man, hope you get it running well again soon. is this a keeper or fix and sell?

 

Thanks for the input guys. As for the car I think im going to sell it just for the fact that Im really trying to find a mk2 jetta or gti to daily drive. Im going to look at a 91 wolfsburg jetta on friday if I decide to buy that I think the a4 will go up for sale we'll see what happens.

 

well since you already have a B6, getting a VW wouldn't be cheating on us haha.
