Symphony I Aux Input
What is the cheapest/simplest way to get aux input on the Symphony I? I just want to have a cord coming out of the dash or wherever that I can plug into my music device and have it work. Is it possible to hijack the cassette player and splice in an aux jack? Thanks.
You could do that but then you won't be able to use the changer, and the deck still needs a signal from a certain pin or else it'll think there's nothing connected.
What I did in my old car was open the head unit and find soldering points for the left and right channels coming from the tape deck. Then I just soldered a female 3.5mm jack to those wires and mounted it on the back of the head unit so I can unplug the cord whenever I need. Then I gutted an old tape to make it think it's playing something. This way I could still use the CD changer and play tapes if i ever need to.
This isn't the easiest way mind you, you'll need to be fairly knowledgeable about electronics and know how to solder, but it doesn't remove any functionality, it didn't cost me anything because I already had everything lying around, and theoretically it would sound the best out of all possible solutions.
I've never opened the head unit in my current car though, so I have no idea about how hard it would be to find the right soldering points and mount the 3.5mm jack. But sometimes the soldering points are marked L and R, if they are then it's a no brainer.
