i'm thinking about doing the same thing with my 2.8. maybe replace it with a glasspack to reduce drone? and of course doing an aftermarket muffler, but using factory piping. i'm curious of what it would sound like...

I have a 97 2.8 with a custom exhaust. I cut out the resonator and it has a "fart can". believe me. it sounds amazing. i get compliments all the time. And no, ur audi will not sound like a honda. It is loud, but that doesnt bother me. My exhasut sounded terrible till i cut out that resonator. makes a big difference. And i swear it feels like it has a little more power in the high rpms, but i could just be imagining it

Just do yourself the favor and a nice exhaust system if you can. Its going to cost you just the same amount of money buying cheap crap, installing it, getting tired of the way it sounds, and then buying something good to replace it. Custom exhaust systems aren't a bad route to go, but don't get a "fart can". I have a custom bent exhaust, no resinator, testpipe, and a flowmaster muffler. I get no buzzing, its not obnoxiously loud, but there a very mild drone so just be aware.

i would be all up for getting a full exhaust system on my 2.8, but nobody really makes them in the u.s. that i have found any way. so i'm thinking going with a cherrybomb glass pack, to a magnaflow muffler.

any recomendations on mufflers? links would be awesome

Right now I have a Thrush baffled muffler waiting to go on. I'm hoping it'll give it a decent growl.

I just replaced my mid resonator (because it had a hole in it) with a magnaflow 10415 and removed the rear muffler. should be similar to removing the mid resonator and replacing the rear muffler.. it's louder than I want it to be but it doesn't sound bad. I'll try to get a video tomorrow

quickly took this video today. I used my old p&s camera and I think it sounds better in person...

still unsure if I dislike it enough to put a muffler in the back..
