so im pricing the timing belt for my car, and my usual mechanic said $725 he said its a little more because he also replaces some hydraulic thing (i don't remember what he said because he called me at 9 this morning when i just woke up)
this seems alittle high and i know it would save me alot to do it myself but the timing belt gives me that feeling it would be better to let a mechanic handle it.

what prices has everyone else got that didn't do it themselves?

 

A little high? Isn't the typical mechanic price for a Tbelt change more like $1000 - $1500? Maybe I'm wrong.

 

Thats not too bad if parts are included. I bought the TB kit from Blauparts and paid a mechanic to put it in and still paid like $500

 

labor alone is usually $500-1000. if that includes parts too then that is a good deal. just make sure hes replacing everything including the water pump, not just the belt.

 

Good call, thats one of the reasons i like the kit from blau parts. Comes with the timing belt, tensioner, pulleys, water pump, cam seals, gaskets, G12, a new serpentine belt, etc. etc.

Most of the guys on other A4 forums offer to do timing belt installs for $250. But they do it in their garage, your garage, parking long or the street since none of them actually own a shop.
