Testing of the MAF
I have an 1998 Audi A4 Quattro 1.8T model and it is experiencing some idling issues. I just bought this car, knowing the issue. I ran the codes and I pulled the following codes: P0102 MAF or VAF A circuit.
The fellow I bought the car from said he replaced the MAF, and I believe him. But he bought crappy parts from partstrain.com. He said he paid about $35 for them. The car almost idles right if the MAF is unplugged. If I plug it in, it dies. So is there any way to test the MAF? and the wiring harness? I searched the forums and I couldn't find anything about checking the workingness of the MAF.
Thanks

One way to check on a MAF, while not definitive, is to simply electrically disconnect it. If the engine runs better, the MAF is bad. If the engine doesn't run better then the test is inconclusive but the MAF is likely not the only problem, at least.
Since you did try this, I'd say start by cleaning it. If the same stuff happens then it's bad. The wires in a MAF are very fragile.

I'm thinking it's the wire for the MAF. Or the fuse. Any idea where I might could find a new wire? I did some googling but I couldn't find one. Also, would anyone happen to know where the fuse for the MAF is? I looked in the owners Manual, but it wasn't any help with the MAF fuse.
Thanks
