Default Is there a Difference?

Hi everyone.

I own a 1999 A4, Quattro Avant 1.8LT.

My question is regarding the ABS controller.

Is there a difference between a modle with the number - 8E0614111A and one with the number - 8E064111AB?

Both units have the same O.E. number 0265220408.

All I can find out is that the one with only the 'A' is for the Audi and the other one ending with 'AB' is for the equivalent VW Passat.

Any help and information would be awesome.

Thank you

Compatibility between ABS modules is really hit or miss and there are so many part numbers that the only way to truly know is to try it yourself. I don't think anybody's made a cross-compatibility list.

I have had 2 attempts at swapping ABS modules...My deduction from MY experience is the letter HAS to be the same on both...that was my experience...however, I have heard that others have managed to interchanged...

I've never heard of a model with AB at the end...or a B for that matter....

make sure you have tried the reset process with VCDS. if no good, you may then want to remove it and send it out for repair, to a place like cheapabs.com. removing the unit is a pain.

Thanks for your reply markymarc, it would appear that you could be correct.
In regards to you not hearing of the model with the AB or a B at the end, take a look at this web site, very useful.

Cheers

@hartsoe1.

Thank you for your input, It looks as thought it will be a pain to change out

As far as I know my mechanic had done that, but I will check with him to make sure..

Cheers

Is there a place in AU that rebuilds them? Cheaper than a new one? I know here in the US they run high in price...for a new one that is.....

Thanks for the link...in Deutschland.....if you're going to ship it there....might as well buy a used one from the US and have it shipped to AU....

@markymarc
In AU they are very high in price, I have sourced one from the US, with shipping it is still over AU$1000.00 cheaper

The best price is in Deutschland, my mechanic is from there and still has family over there, so if I need to go down that track he said that I could purchase it and have it delivered to his family's residence and then sent to me.... a bit of a long way round for a short cut LOL

The 8E0-614-111-A goes to 8E0-614-111-E now, and the 8E0-614-111-AB goes to 8E0-614-111-AN but neither show fitment as far as crossing to each other. The AN seems to be very limited to the A4 years for fitment where the 111-E fits more of a variety as in A4-A6-A8 but in the 98-03 year range.
