thumping under moderate braking
It very well could, and if you're still on the originals it wouldn't be a bad idea to change them out anyways. At this point it seems to me like you will need to follow a sort of process-of-elimination logic to solve this problem.
Just to rule out abs, if the abs were coming on all the time would the abs light flash on the dashboard? Is it possible for the abs to engage only on one side?

There is a fuse for the ABS you could try unplugging, not sure which it is. Though to answer your question - it is unlikely that the ABS would only affect one side and not the other if you are braking on a smooth dry surface going in a straight line, unless there is a bad ABS sensor. Pulling the ABS fuse should help you determine if that's an issue.

this sucks
we put the car on a lift today with me inside, with the car running i took it to about 30 mph and hit the brakes while my friend was under it looking at the wheel. we found that the caliper is loose, the two 7mm hex sliding bolts are tight and secure but the caliper is still very loose. The guess is that either the bolts have worn down (thinned) or the holes in the caliper have worn out (gotten bigger) and the caliper is shaking/rocking when the brakes are applied. since the bolts are 4 bucks im starting there, if that isnt it ill replace the caliper.
