Time for motor build
im not planning on making huge power. 300 at wheels first time around and i couldnt forsee me going bigger than 400awhp anytime. but interestingly enough i looked at casting numbers today on parts. the head had numbers starting with 058... forgot to mention i wont be switching any motor parts. i want to complete motors. one stock the other built.

i couldnt find any numbers on the block (its pretty rusty and ill probably sandblast once i get the roating assembly out tonight. i gotta go to the diesel shop a half mile from my house tonight for that though.) the water pump had casting numbers with 06a though.

im really wondering what i all got here. I guess my biggest concern is with vvt. since i gotta buy a new head anyways i suppose ill look for an awm head now. and i can certainly gurantee you ill be changing out exhaust valves. F sodium valves in the a.

Part number on the block should be on the exhaust side near cylinder 2. Some of the early 06A cars got heads with a 058 part number on them. Basically the same head as the ATW got which was a 058 engine.
If you go with a AEB head I have a used OEM VVT cam chain tensioner.

So let me get this straight. I can use aeb awm or Aug head and still retain vvt by using a vvt cct? If that's the case I'll have no problem finding another head
well im looking for a new head. havent found much for cheap but ill keep looking. i took the bottom end out today and it looks suprisingly well. all the bearings are great. the bore on all cylinders looks great. i think i got a decent deal. i just gotta find a head now. everything cleaned up pretty nice in the parts washer.

this is the bad piston. id be willing to buy one if anyone that has one wants to pm me. there are 19mm wrist pins.

and now i got a k03 for sale if anyone wants it. id easily trade for a good head or cash and a piston. (will be nice and shiny by that time)

Big Block POWER!!

small update here. I got a head and its an aeb even. Unfortunately I paid more for the head than the whole motor but it was in decent shape. I got a new oil pickup tube and I cleaned the oil pan out pretty good. I'm made at least ten trips down the road to the diesel shop to use their parts washer and I'll make many more I'm sure. I used some stuff they got called cresylic acid to eat the sludge away on the pan and oil pump. Worked fairly well and both are clean as a whistle. Almost. I've been buffing all mating surfaces and am just about ready to order rods and pistons. I'll probably get more pics up tomorrow. And if anyone has random pointers on using an aeb head with an 06a block id love to hear them.
another update: i have all the motor mounts and accessory mounts painted black. they came out pretty nice looking considered how badly i cleaned them. it must have been the paint i was using. the oil pan came out really nice. I got my block back from the machine shop after cleaning and boring it out .25mm. i know it isnt really boring it out but i get a hella deal on mahle powerpak pistons and had to pick them up. dropped the pistons and rods in a couple nights ago and me being a dumbass forgot to but new main bolts so i just went to the dealership to pick those and an oil pickup tube o ring up. next step is buying gaskets so i can put it all together. for the timing belt setup im going with the rai kevlar belt and ie manual belt tensioner. I think that setup should be pretty tough and wont really need maintenence for 100k besides checking belt tension. any thoughts?
i did end up buying an aeb head by the way. i think i got away with a pretty good bill at the machine shop. they checked for bent valves and timed my cams plus cleaned and bored the block all for about 230. not too bad if you ask me
