Timing Belt

Question Timing Belt

Hi guys just wanna ask, is it a timing belt or a timing chain on a 1999 a4 1.8t its with the nemo side mirrors.. thanks guys

Should be a belt. I haven't heard of any B5s controlled by a chain.

ok thanks... by the way i only have one car key and its a valet key, i called audi but they want me to charge like 200 for a key. does any of you guys know where to buy a cheap keys? or does key duplicates? cause i also called ace hardware and locksmith. they said they cant do it because our keys are laser cut and the machine is to expensive. FYI i dont have power door locks maybe a bad pump or something. just wanted the regular key.

but the ones in ebay are not yet cut. and dealerships wont cut keys unless you bought it from them

The cams are connected to each other by a chain but the crank/cam timing is via belt.

Even on the 1.8? I assumed that the t-belt drove both cams in the four. As you said the cam chain controls the intake cam in the V6.

^^^yes even on a 1.8t. cams are connected by chain, crank and cam by timing belt.
