Lightbulb Timing belt/pulley check?

Hi,

does anyone know exactly where and how to check for the timing belt and also maybe the pulley or something, just to do something on your own to see where your belt stands?

when your looking straight down at the engine and you see the visible belt isnt that the alternator belt?
2001 a4 1.8t sport

Thanks

Pry back the two upper timing belt cover tabs with a flat head screwdriver and pull it back to see the belt. Thats about all you can do though. If you don't know when your timing belt/tensioner has been done if at all then just do it. You can't determine if a tensioner is going to break just by looking at it.
