timing off?, 2.8 v6 how can I know if the timing is right?
HI, Im trying to fig out whats wrong with a car my brother bought and was going to fix but its been sitting in his garage 4 a while already (about 2 months) this is what I know from him; he got the car from his friend who overheated the car and had to replace the head gasket, ok so I beleive the friend actually replaces the head gasket but then seems like it becomes a little to much work 4 him and decides to sell the car as-is, either he couldnt time it right, or who knows, any way my brother buys the car thinking that he only needed to set the timing right, but now that he "fix the timing" it doesnt give any spark at all, well now I want to try to help but Im not sure how to fig. out if he actually didnt time it right... or if there is anything else holding it from starting... any help will be appreciated

sorry, I forgot to mention, my first tough was to check the crank shaft sensor, but it seems to be good, then I read something about a possible bad timing will cause no spark, and now thats what worry me. thanks 4 reading, and hope to read some hints..

I'd bet that almost half the time when I do an engine job like that, it won't start right away because I've left some plug unplugged. It might not be related to timing or the head job...but just a plug left haning. VAG-COM would tell you exactly what you're missing if you can get it scanned somewhere.

so I found an open wire, two cables 1 hot and 1 gnd, witch I cant find where it should go. this comes out from the cables from the ecm/ecu located near the fire wall in the driver side, I hope it has something to do with the car not giving any spark, I checked the crank and cam sensors and they seem to be OK... well any help is appreciated
