Exclamation Toyota-like stuck accelerator incident

While driving our 99.5 stock A4 Quattro with tip in blowing snow (0 F) I felt the engine reving downhill requiring heavy brake pressure to hold the beast back. Tried neutral and it revved to red line, so eventually put it in a fluffy
4' snow bank, very conveniently located. Be still my heart.
After a few minutes it restarted and has been fine since.
Anyone had similar moments? Ideas as to cause?
Beware A4 B5ers the ricers aren't the only ones with potential disasters in the garage.

I read ALOT about this when I was looking for an A4. There are a large amount of fatal crashes from this. I googled it awhile back. There are still some good stuff on there.

why didnt you just cut off the ignition? Audi had a huge problem with this back in the day, my friends mother almost killed herself due to it... but she was quick enough to turn it off luckily.
