I haven't put a lot of money into this A4,reason being it hasn't gave me any major issues until now,the car is still driving, that's a good thing.

I don't do mods, other than cosmetic mods like my Angel eyes lights,tints,17" sport edition rims and a pioneer DVD head unit and pioneer speakers all around with an amp for the sub woofer and another amp for the 4 speakers, the driver side speaker died on me,have to get that replaced but only after i fix the major issue.

I hate the uncompassionate vibes i get from people, when you are trying to fix your car, they always are quick to make statements that discourage you from fixing the car like..."get rid of it".

Fist off, nobody else on this forum has anything invested in the car, only me as i own it.

I love my B5 and am not going to just "get rid of it" because someone i don't even know,is unsympathetic on how much sentimental value i have invested in my B5.

I am not upset, just thought i'd throw that out there for future reference, for anyone else wanting to chime in on the thread. I WANT TO FIX IT...PERIOD!

get it? got it? good!

That's what everyone told me. I wish I'd listened. Seriously.

For a $4,000 tranny rebuild you could buy another Audi... I don't think anyone was saying to get rid of it, just to be wise about how much money you throw at it when that could have been spent making it stronger, more powerful, and more reliable for you in the long run

Best of luck with your car of course, hope it's not too expensive to fix

I wasn't telling you flat out get rid of it....You are correct it is your car and honestly I couldn't care less of the problems that you are having as it doesn't affect me in the slightest...However you did come onto a public forum asking for help/advice and I did so.....It seems from your "mods" that you don't want or are unable to turn a wrench to fix it yourself in which case you will have to pay premium to get it fixed by someone else....Honestly though no "feelings" in the world would compel me to pay 4k for a rebuilt transmission as smart money would say "get rid of it"......Im not mad either jussayin

I gotcha but its obvious that nobody read my post clearly as i stated that a rebuild from the dealership, where i purchased the A4 would have the tranny rebuilt for only 1500.00 if THE ISSUE IS THE TRANNY,the quotes of 4k is a rebuilt tranny from other places, including a Audi stealership.

The truth be told fellas,i can't afford to buy another Audi that "I LIKE".

I've seen Audi's that i would love buy and trade in this one for but they are out of my price range, there are a lot of Audi models that i feel are, flat out ugly!

I hate the newer audi's with those big gigantic grills...sheesh those are hideous but on the other hand, there are a few that cought my eye but those are 2007-2010 models that is too expensive. I don't like the style of the 2002/03/04/05/06 body style of the A4. the back end of those Audi's looks retarded in my opinion and looks like a oval shapped egg

Now,i happen to like the look of the B5 over some newer Audi models,i just plain am in love with this style,it is honestly in my option, the best looking style Audi has ever made and i don't think they will ever make a better body style, which brings me to my next point, being i can't afford another Audi that i "LIKE" and can"AFFORD",i figured i might aswell put money into this one, being i love the way it looks and its all paid for.

Don't misunderstand my dedication to my A4,if the amout to fix it,exceeds the about that i paid for the car(5300.00 at 147k miles, now it has 157k miles) then i'd buy a used tranny from a junk yard and sell off the street as to try and get as much money back as i can.

I'm not at that point yet and 1500.00 to rebuild my tranny is a drop in the bucket for what i paid for the car,so i'll see soon enough, what i am looking at,once i get it diagnosed. I am even thinking about bringing it in a Audi stealership, have them give me a diagnosis, pay them and go someone else for repairs.

I'm not jumping to conclusions,i'm simply going to wait and see the results from the diagnosis, last resort is i'll take it to an Audi stealer and have them poke and prode with a **** probe to see what is the final verdict.

When they do give me the low down,i'll be sure to tell them that i will not be getting it fixed with them,so they can put away their lube and motion lotion, because i refuse to presume the position to get bent over and get reamed up the *** by an Audi stealership.

well whether im in tip or auto, the second the car gets to 4th gear its like it just out of gear and sometimes (rarely) it will downshift back to 3rd but for the most part all the gears light up and it goes into limp mode and the revs go up, after that, i have to stop and turn the car off and on again and then i can drive normally until 4th gear. i was about to swap out the TCU until i heard of your problems. this i actually my dads car and according to him he was driving in the snow the night before and when he went out the next day the car ran great until he left our subdivision and the tranny kept going into limp mode. it pretty much been sitting in garage since (so like 2 weeks) and ive just been busy and its too cold to actually go under and see if its leaking oil or pull the TCU. i also have the same issues where niether my handheld vag scanner or my rosstech cable can communicate with the TCU.
