Default Transmission Issues?????

So.... Here's the deal..... I've got two questions. First one is where the heck is the tranny dipstick on a 97 1.8??? I'm trying to see if the car may be low on fluid.... Which brings me to my second question. I've noticed that it's been shifting a little bit harder than normal. Maybe i'm just thinking about it to much and it's just being normal. But I've noticed that while i'm driving if I let off the gas I can feel something under the car. Like if you could imagine what a car feels like with a broken Motor mount( which is what I thought right away) It's the same type of feeling but not as severe. I've checked the motor mounts and didn't see anything wrong. I'm really hopeing that it's just low fluid. I'm not really wanting to Buy a new tranny. Also just a quick question What do yoru cars normally shift at??? just driving normal??? does it space the shifts out pretty good, or does it just shift one after another??? This Message jumps around alot, SOrry i'm tired....

there is no dipstick. just a filler plug and drain plug. the filler plug is just in front of the drivers side cv joint and the drain plug is just behind the skid plate

filler

drain

and you need a special tool for the drain plug. the filler plug is just a 17mm allen bolt

i dont know about your problems cause im not familiar with automatics, but did you check the tranny mounts too?

I DO have bad motor mounts, so I know the feeling you're describing, but I don't know what else would cause that...you sure you don't see any dark stains or wetness on the underside of the mounts or on their brackets? The tranny mounts could also be responsible, but I don't know that they fail as obviously as the motor mounts, so it could be hard to tell their condition. It might be worth splurging for a transmission fluid change...your car's probably due anyway.

Mine tends to shift pretty rapidly from gear to gear and sooner than I would if I were in control (it shifts at well under 2000 rpms on its own)...by the time I get to the end of my street (which isn't very long), going around 25 mph, it's in 4th.

yeah Mine shifts the same way..... That's why I was wondering what others did. Just seemed odd haha. I'm going to go have the tranny fluid changed, Cant hurt anything. Also i'm going to go check the mounts out again. I guess the way i've always been showed to check the mounts is, Hold the break and give it gas in both directions. If you see the motor move a good distance they are messed. If not then they are doing their job. who knows.... I'll keep ya posted on the SITCH E AYE SHON

Is the filler hole in the same place on a 1999 A4 1.8T with Tiptronic?
