Default A4 Transmission issues

Hi guy's maybe someone can give me some advice as I have had my car to two service agents who are telling me different things

I've got a 2005 A4 2.4 with 90ks on the clock and as I know now a troublesome CVT. I noticed that when I am driving, the transmission would go from D to S so I took it to the local Audi dealer who said they do not work on the transmissions so sent me to the transmission specialist who does the work for them. The technician took about 10 minutes with his computer hooked to my car and told me I needed a new Transmission computer, total cost installed just under 4k. He also said I may soon loose reverse to which is now happening. While passing my local mechanic I asked him to do a fault code check and his computer is saying its the Transmission Range Sensor code 17090 F125 implausible signal.
So I understand these are two separate parts, one of which a lot more expensive than the other. Should I start by replacing the Range Sensor or is this fault a result of the Transmission computer?
Thanks for any advice in advance, G

Under 4K is a bit high in my opinion. But your car is a 2005 so maybe there is a price difference. Since my car is a 2004 A4 1.8T. Here is my invoice when I got my TCM replaced. It's not a cheap repair and not all shops can do the repair. Car has been fine since the replacement. My advice is if, you plan to keep the car fix it. If not sell it ASAP. This only happens to CVT Audi's that I have heard of so far. Good luck on your decision.

The parts total varies by year and exact trans model you have. The vin is required when ordering this item. Although it is ordered through Audi by vin it does not come already programmed to the vehicle. You would want to check with your shop if they can program this. Usually the grand total on parts with fluid is in the 1400.00 range. Xalents23 did pretty good on his grand total for parts and labor. The parts we sell are item numbers 35, 37, 36, 12, 10, and 31. Plus about 8 liters of fluid. You may choose not to ship that much fluid since the extra shipping to send it outweighs the cost savings. Because item #35 is ordered by vin number there is no return on that part for any reason.
