Default Transmission Problem

I am having problems with my transmission in my 1996 a4 quattro, it goes into "limp mode".

When I scanned I got error code 00260, which means something is wrong with solenoid valve 2, does any one know how to replace the solenoid valve?

Thanks

Default Did you ever get help or figure this out on your own?

I am having transmission issues as well, although vag com shows absolutely no codes. My car does not have reverse, and it will not shift into 2nd. I can put it in tiptronic and it will drive fine in 1st, but when it tries to shift to 2nd, it shudders and stalls really bad. I can force it into limp home mode by disconnecting the TCM, then it will drive fine in what Im assuming is 4th(since it does not change gears) and still no reverse in limp home mode. Someone suggested 1 or more bad solenoids which are keeping the trans from shifting.

What I want to know if you ever found a way to change or check your solenoid?
I know the solenoids are right behind the trans pan, but is there a way to check them? Right now, it could just be the solenoid that affects 1st to 2nd shift, or the one that affects R. I cant seem to find any info on checking these in any forum.

Could be your TCM is no good, buy a used one from the junk yard with the same part number and swap the parts and see if the problem still persists,if it does, your tranny needs to be repaired/replaced.

Use vagcom to check your multifunction switch. Check your transmission fluid level. If it doesn't look like your TCM has gotten wet, it's probably okay. Those are relatively easy to check and won't cost you anything. I've researched limp mode problems a lot in the past and replacing the TCM rarely fixed the problem. Do some searching. There are many things you can check before assuming the transmission is bad and going to the lengths of replacing it.
