Default Transmission Range Sensor - New audi owner and first time poster.

Hey everyone,
Im new to the forum, and the the Audi world in general. I just bought a 2000 a4 2.8 and I am in love with it. The place I bought it from put a lot of TLC into it before I picked it up but there is still a lingering problem that I am worried about.

Ive only had the car for 3 days now. And twice, after driving for a while and coming to a stop, putting the car into P... the entire PNRD432 display is light up. (Instead of the individual letter being it.) Also, the car will take off very slowly, which I have since learned is "limp mode"? THe Check engine light came on after this latest event and I was able to get the code read before the light went off and it said Transmission Range Sensor A.

Now I have called the place I got it from and they told me they spoke to Audi about it and were told that it may be just in need of new/more transmission fluid.

After doing some research on this problem I am becoming worried that this place may be just messing with the fluid in an attempt to get the check engine light to turn off for a month. (Since I only have a 30 day, 1000mi warranty)

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I really appreciate it.

Oh, and besides this problem I dont think I will buy anything but an Audi again because this thing is the most fun toy Ive ever owned.

Sounds like you might need a "multi function" switch or similar. They're about $200 from various online sites.

Hope you get this checked out ASAP. Try getting the fault codes pulled. And post them up.

If your transmission range sensor is bad, changing or filling up the transmission fluid shouldn't fix the problem.

So, I brought it there and told them that I knew the fluid wasnt going to do $#it. And the proceeded to tell me that they planned to replace that multi function switch all along. Even though that was the first time they even said those words to me. So after they replaced the coolant temp sensor, which was something else they had to fix, he tells me that the Audi dealer sent them the part for the 1.8 and not the 2.8, so I have to go back some time this week.

Just an update.
