is it possible to swap a manual transmission from a 1.8t into a tiptronic 2.8. both cars are quattro.

 

yes but the rear diff needs to be changed too. the final drive is quite different. i'd just find a 2.8 tranny if i were you

 

Yes. Same as doing a 1.8t tiptronic to 1.8t manual swap. You will just need to use a 2.8 driverside transmission bracket/mount.

 

i would use a 2.8 tranny but i have a friend with a spare 1.8t transmission that he is willing to give me. the only reason im considering is because the transmission is free and im haveing issues with the automatic transmission plus i would prefer a manual anyway.

 

and if i need a new diff i'm assuming it would be from a manual 2.8 or could i use the diff from the 1.8t?

 

Not sure what he is trying to say seeing that the O1A 1.8t transmission and 01A 2.8 tranmission both use the same 3.889 diff. YOu really need to check your 2.8 tip tranmission code to see what final drive it has so you know if the manual tranmissions are going to be the same as your rear diff.

So just because it has a 2.8 tip doesn't mean its going to match the final drive in the 2.8 manual. Life is not that easy lol.

I have a customer that did a tip to manual swap in his A4 1.8t, he had to swap out the rear diff because his tip tranmission had a different final drive then the 3.889 in the manual.

 

im not really too worried about it since i have the diff that was originally mated to the transmission i would be swapping in so if need be i can just swap that out too. so i should be good.... any idea what the labor cost would be if i took it too a shop? i could probably do it myself but idk if i am confident enough to.

 

its about 3k i believe to have it swapd out at the tranny place with the transission so like 2k i guess?
