Default turbo bad?

i have a 01 a4 1.8T

i had an oil problem before with it (leaking badly) which i repaired. i drove it for a few miles after having repaired the leak and sudden loss of power and loud whistling noise. when i let off gas whistling noise becomes very very loud pressure release noise.

i have white smoke in my exhaust.

i believe it is a leaking turbo but i wondered about the whistling noise i hear when the turbo is spooling up.

any help or thoughts would be helpful.

They whistle when the go bad, white smoke is a good sign of a bad turbo as well. What is your PSI when you boost?

i don't have a boost gauge installed, nor one available unless i get one. i do have a ross tech cable so if there's a sensor for boost psi i could get it from there. is there a sensor?

Your 2001 A4 is equipped with a MAP sensor (manifold absolute pressure) which is essentially a boost sensor. You can look at requested vs. actual boost in the Ross Tech VCDS program.
