Ok I thought you were saying smoke was coming out the tail. Sorry. When you get a chance, remove your airbox (headlight optional), puck valve from the turbo inlet, n75 and related hoses, DV (if 97), and remove the turbo inlet hose to see if the cold side is saturated with oil. Alternatively you can remove the throtle body boot/hose and look for excessive oil (a little bit is normal). But it would be best to look on the turbo side since thats where the smoke is coming from, and youll be able to reach down and wiggle the shaft to check for play. I know what a 1.8T feels like when the turbo isn't working, sounds like that could be the problem, but IDK. If one of the oil jackets/seals failed then you'd be shooting smoke out the tail pipe. Might as well start getting your hands dirty. You don't HAVE to remove the headlight or even airbox to get the turbo inlet hose off, but it makes it a hell of a lot easier. If there is an oil or coolant leak at the feed lines on the turbo then that will be pretty obvious when you get in there. Do you have vag com or a way to get a scanner to check your ecu before delving into this?

P0422. Main Catalyst. Below Threshold
P1136. Fuel Trim: Bank 1 (Add): System too Lean

I'd say your cat is clogged, engine is running way rich because of it and is over correcting for leanness hence the lean code. This would cause a major decrease in power and smoke from the cat/turbo area. I wouldn't worry about the trubo. If it was bad it would either sound like a dentist drill, or you would have lots of smoke out the tail pipe, or both. I'd pick up a new cat (or test pipe?) and primary 02 sensor.

all the info that drunkin was sharing and all the problems sound similar to what i am having with my car.

the only difference is that my car isnt starting......it cranks but doesnt start.

could this be a o2 sensor and cat problem as well?

let me know and glad you got your car running drunkin!
