Default Turbo question

I purchased a 2000 audi a4 quattro 1.8t about 4 monthes ago and this is my first audi and first car with a turbo.
Since ive been driving this car i havnt noticed any kind of noticeable power boost at any speed or rpm. Im wondering if my turbo even works. My questions are this. How would i know if my turbo works or not? Is there any kind of sound i should be listening for? Is this stock turbo so small that you never really feel the power boost? How can i diagnose the turbo to see if its working properly?

Audi did a good job of keeping our turbos quiet, but you should definitely feel it spool up around 3K RPM at the latest.

One thing Audi didn't do (and I can't think of a reason why they wouldn't have) is include a boost gauge. If I were you, that would be my first investment. That way you will always know if you're making boost and how much. You'll also have the benefit of knowing if your vacuum is where it needs to be.

I have an analog gauge and that's all I'll ever trust, but a lot of guys run digital gauges too. I simply prefer knowing that my gauge dial is tapped directly into the boost/vacuum. I don't trust digital, but some guys swear by them, so it's a personal preference, but you definitely need that first.

Here's my setup:

Let me know if I can help further.

G/L and Welcome.

You wont feel the stock turbo. It just isnt there, but yes to ensure your turbo is working properly you can fit a boost gauge

I've been running 17 psi for so long that I don't even remember what the stock 8-10 psi felt like. I should've thought of that before saying "you should definitely feel it by 3K RPM." lol (my bad).

Stock is 7psi on 2000, 11psi on 2001. 4psi for limp mode
