Default turbo whooshing noise, started today

Earlier today, my boost died. Its been working fine. But now that i'm 250 miles from home, I get a 'whooshing' noise, no power, and a "17705 - Pressure Drop between Turbo and Throttle Valve (check D.V.!) P1297 - 35-00 - -

So - the big question is - can I drive the car safely? It seems to handle fine and I can get up to interstate speeds - it just takes longer because I don't have any boost. The big question is - am I going to damage the engine by trying to drive a long distance?

thanks!

check your ic hose... also check your dv hose... what area are you in, maybe someone close has a dv they can help you with

might have blown your dv..... you have a boost gauge i assume? so you have 0 psi max boost? there is something letting the air escape before it is getting to the throttle body....

I'm guessing the diaphragm in your dv (if stock or 710N) is shot. If any of the turbo/IC plumbing actually got disconnected then your engine wouldn't run. Go easy on it. You'll be running super rich if not enough air (boost) is reaching the engine according to your throtle angle which can cook your cat.

Actually - I don't have a boost gauge. I like stock - but a boost gauge would occassionally be useful (today!). Vagcom tells me that the I'm not meeting specified boost - and that even during acceleration, specified boost is pretty low. (which makes sense - since its not getting any boost, it's not asking for even more boost).

Might be oil under the car (or an unfortunate parking spot - not sure yet). Oil level is fine but a smidge lower than it was yesterday.

Are you able to get under the car for a look? Do you know what to look for?

Btw - I'm home now - and tried to keep my rpm's under 2500. Was very gentle accelerating. I live in a hilly area, I'm more worried about turbo problems around town than on the interstate! (awfully hard to keep rpms down going up a hill!)

Do you have tools?

"What to look for" - in terms of oil leak, or in terms of DV?
"Tools" - nothing specialized

Oh - interesting - no check engine light! Though Vagcom reports the error. If a do a little around town driving I'm sure that I'll get the customary "Cat under efficiency" error.

We have our own DIY for the DV but it's not very good and is for AEB engine.

Follow THIS

All you really need is a flathead scredriver. First make sure that all hoses and clamps are secured around the DV/turbo plumbing and on the other side by the IC and throtle body. If it all looks secure then take the dv out and post back. Youll need tin snips or something like that to get the DV vac line clamp off the top of it after it is removed.

FYI I have a perfectly working stock 710 DV out of a 98 that had low miles when it was upgraded. If your dv ends up being the problem, and you are not chipped, you can have it for the cost of shipping + a couple bucks for my valueble time
