The ultimate Audi puzzle
2000 A4 Avant
Okay so I'm aware of some the standard issues (which I've had) like pixel fading on the displays, leaking mirror fluid, control arms, etc BUT I got a new one for ya.
My driver side door (open/closed) sensor malfunctions on hot days when its in direct sun! I've almost narrowed it down to the exact degree that will cause it to malfunction. The sun has to be hitting the drivers door and it has to be over at least 68-70 degrees! I live in Seattle so those are hot days. LOL
Anyway, The only way to get the door ajar display and the beeping to stop is to slam the door REALLY hard. I hate doing it but sometimes I just get pissed and slam the hell out of it. Of course the stealership has never heard of such a thing and they want 6 months pay to look into it. Garbage.
Anyone ever heard of such a thing? I'm assuming the only thing it can be is a digital sensor of some kind in the door that malfunctions when it gets hot. Anyone know of where the sensor is?
Thanks!!

Well I'm no help on the where, but it sounds more like there's a short in the wire than just a malfunction. I can't guarantee that, so don't quote me by all means, but if I had to guess, maybe the sensor wire expands with added heat (basic property of metals) and right at that temperature is when it has expanded enough to make false contact with the sensor and cause it to think the door is open.
I believe the sensor is built in the latch which is in the door. My volvo was exactly like this and wouldn't think the door was closed on hot days and i adjusted the latch so it shut tighter and it fixed the problem.
Hope this helps

My 2000 A4 does the exact same thing at approx. the same temp. There is a microswitch behind the door latch mechanism that is not closing all the way. I tried to adjust the latch mechanism and the microswitch, which helped, but neither solved the problem. It seems that if I open the door, and then open and close the mechanism by hand a few times, every so often the mechanism will not seat all the way properly, so the problem (in my case anyway) is mechanical. Lube helps, but I still have not eliminated the problem completely. Good luck and please post back if you find a solution.
