I am going to buy a VAG com scan tool and would like to know what model is the best to get? I would like to be able to reset the shift points in my transmission(97 a4 Quattro 1.8t). Thank you for your input.

 

The paid versions of VAG COM are incredibly versatile. I would get ahold of Ross Tech and ask them directly, since they offer so many options.

 

You can get the cheap kind from ebay/amazon that will pull fault codes, but that's about it.

If you plan to be working on your car a lot, it'd be smart to invest in the ross tech vcds/vag-com cable that does a lot more. Pretty sure you just need the $250 one but yes it would be smart to contact them to ask.
