Default Which Vag tool to get?

I saw this vag tool Palm IIIc thing that someone is selling loads of in the classified section of the forum recently and until then I was prepared to buy the ross-tech package (possiby with the Bentley shop manual). My use is going to be primarily to check codes, maybe tweek an option here or there, so this palm III seemed like the way to go. But then I thought about the fact that there is no technical support and the palm III is probably used and has no warranty.

Obviously the ross-tech route is more expensive (and bulky), but I do already have a laptop and I like the fact I can move the software to another device should one fail.

Anyone have any opinions to help me make my desision?

Thanks.

the only thing that strikes me as odd, is the seller will only answer questions thru email, so no one else is seeing the answers. but he's got a good reputation on AZ. im sure it'll do everything he says it will, but i'd rather get the real deal

Yes, he's responded to me via email, that is how I know it's a used no warranty Palm IIIc and that there will be no support for the item once I receive it. He also makes the point that it's not possible to tell you what it can and can't do, largly due to the fact that it works to different degrees for each make and model car.

Any other opinions? Anyone here have the Palm III version?
