Hey man, don't take it personal. Thanks for the responses.....Bet ya a fiver I'm older than you. I've thrown more$$$ at cars than I care to admit, just trying to use a little common sense. Or I could put the A4 on a raised bed on my lawn, might look nice with some marigolds.

This is such a bummer, the car is so perfect in many ways and now mondo bucks to fix a car that's probably not worth the money to fix. Thanks for the fast response to my post. The belt broke rounding a 15mph corner.

Replace the belt, tensioners, and rollers and do leakdown and compression tests. If it passes, ship it.
If not, pull the head, replace the bent valves and hg, make sure the pistons aren't cracked, lap 'em in, and ship it. Not so much money as labor intensive if you DIY.

See if you can find a shop with a mini video camera, aka borescope, thing that you can put down into your engine through the spark plug holes. By doing that you can look at the valves and see if they are bent.
