Default Very Unique Question

Ok so I realize that this question is usually asked in reverse form, but something came up and I need more time with temp tags in Tennessee and the only way to do so is to fail emissions. Anyone know how to fail? without messing anything up? What is the easiest way to throw my cel in the 98 1.8.t? Any suggestions or tips is welcomed.

thanks in advance!

remove your negative battery term for like 5 min. - resets emmisions. fails inspection

unplug maf - throws cel

either one works, the battery one is better to do, they can just plug your maf back in

Take off your gas cap for about 2 days. It should throw a CEL for an emissions system leak.

you could also unplug the secondary air pump, its pretty easy to get to. Guaranteed CEL. The battery idea would work, but they'll probably tell you to just drive around about 50 miles for an hour and come back that same day, but if you unplug the SAP, it'll register the CEL and they probably wont think to check to make sure that it is plugged in since its more concealed than the MAF and is generally overlooked as it serves next to no purpose as far as the actual drivability of the car is concerned.

It's directly under the airbox. There should be a little hose about 2cm in diameter running out of the airbox to somewhere below, follow that hose and you'll have your SAP. Once you find the pump, just unplug the electrical connection and you'll be set. If you live in a wet or significantly dusty area, consider putting something over both the plug itself and the area on the pump that the plug connects to to avoid unnecessary corrosion.
