Default Conversion to one piece headlight question (hopefully not a repeat)

So I have a 97 a4 and I want to convert to the one piece face lift headlights. I want to go with the stock headlights so I know they fit right, but my question is do the post face lift one piece's all have the auto level motor? Also there is a vin designation, I think it is the tenth digit, of E or D I believe. Does anybody know which one I would want? Thanks in advance.

One piece headlights aren't going to fit right in. You're going to need to modify the body a little bit. And as for the vin I don't know what you're talking about.

Only the stock xeon headlights have the auto leveling and 01's might have auto leveling for non xeon. You need to trim the inner fenders on 96-99 for the 99.5+ face lift lights to fit. A dremel with a cutting disc is what I used.

So if I buy the stock hid headlights off of a 2000 a4 I will have to deal with the auto leveling feature? Do any of the stock one piece hid headlights not have the auto leveling feature? I am pretty confident with every other aspect of the upgrade, just don't want to have to wire in the auto leveling sensor and motor.

I'm pretty sure the auto leveling headlights have a manual adjustment too.

Or you can get the RS4 Depo two-piece lights for your car. You won't have to cut the fenders, you won't have self-leveling motors to contend with, and they're HID-ready. HIDs are cheap. Get the Depos and HIDs and it's a true bolt-in plug and play setup with no modifications.

I bought mine on eBay from seller MakotoAutoTrends. Came fast, packaged great, work and look excellent. I have no complaints

Anybody have direct experience with the OE one piece headlights on a pre facelift car?
